Environmental awareness with vision Sustainability in the Baltic seaside resort of Binz

For us, sustainability is not a trend, but a responsibility. With the “Ohne Meer wird schwer” initiative, we are actively committed to environmental protection on Rügen and beyond. Our guests, employees and partners are part of this movement - together we are shaping a more conscious everyday hotel life that brings people and nature into harmony.

Progress that protects the environment Saving energy with a system

Our hotels rely on modern technologies to increase energy efficiency. Photovoltaic systems have been installed on the roofs of the hotels and will go into operation in 2025, covering part of our electricity requirements. Intelligent control systems - from motion sensors in the corridors to timers in the wellness areas - help to avoid energy losses. In the public areas, LED lamps provide sustainable lighting solutions - several hundred have already been replaced in 2023 and 2024.

Every drop counts Conscious use of water

Conserving resources does not stop in the bathroom: We rely on water-saving systems and use rainwater to irrigate the gardens - for example with a new 12,500 liter tank at the Rugard since April 2025. Discreetly placed notices in the guest rooms raise awareness for mindful water consumption.

Indulgence with a clear conscience Regional, seasonal, responsible

Our cuisine is based on the rhythm of nature: fresh, regional and seasonal ingredients take center stage - e.g. eggs and milk from the Poseritz organic farm on the island of Rügen. At the same time, we promote sustainable consumption with selected products - from natural soaps as a departure gift for our guests to glass straws at the hotel bars and reusable and biodegradable cups at the beach bars.

Sustainability you can join in Involving guests, increasing impact

With our Green Stay program, guests can do without daily room cleaning - and receive a drinks voucher as a thank you. Interested parties can get active themselves with beach clean-ups and environmental workshops. Crowdfunding projects and fundraising campaigns also make sustainable commitment tangible and personal.

Sustainability with a system Certified & inspired by best practices

We are guided by international standards such as EarthCheck and Green Key as well as the DEHOGA initiative for sustainability. These guidance systems help us to further develop our measures and make them transparent. At the same time, we are inspired by innovative hotel concepts - such as plastic-free hotels that consistently do without disposable products.

For today. For tomorrow. Sustainability that lasts

Whether it's a flowering meadow at the hotel, give-aways made from sustainable materials or joint waste collection campaigns on the coast - we show that environmental awareness can be fun. Because real sustainability is created when it is lived - with enthusiasm, vision and a common goal: to preserve our nature for future generations.
